PREVENTION OF SHINGLES-ONLY ELIGIBLE AT AGE 65 YEARS ONLY

 

Zostavax® is a vaccine indicated for the prevention of shingles.

One dose of Zostavax will be funded for adults aged 65 years for the year they are 65.

Once patients turn 66 years of age they are not eligible.

Zostavax is also available for individuals aged 50 or older to purchase through general practice.

For those aged 50 years or plus or in the non-eligible year of 65 years there is a non-funded vaccine called Shingrix available – 2 doses 2 to 6 months apart.
